Culture, crime and history order of the day at concluding session of two-day workshop in Sukkur

Culture, crime and history were the order of the day at the concluding session of the two-day workshop chaired by Dr Khurram Qadir, the director of the National Institute of Cultural and Historical Research (NICHR) Centre of Excellence, Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad.

Professor Dr Dur Mohammad Pathan, principal of SZABIST, Larkana, presented his paper on Sindhi culture. He highlighted the ancient civilisations and heritage of Sindh and discussed the importance of Moenjodaro.


Meanwhile, Professor Dr Ghulam Mustafa Shar discussed his work on the history of Sindh as discovered in archaeological sites. He said that Sindh was named after the River Sindhu, while India too is named after the River Indus. “The province has a rich social, political and economic history,” added Shar. Fossils and human skulls have been found in Dadu, Larkana, Khairpur and Thar areas, he informed.

Criminal history writing was the topic of Professor Dr Imdad Hussain Sahito’s research. In his paper, he briefed on the causes of crime such as grievance, deprivation, social customs, personal ambition, poverty, class conflict, administrative weaknesses, ignorance and illiteracy.
