KARACHI: A policeman died in an exchange of fire with criminals who were trying to rob a house in Gulistan-e-Jauhar early on Tuesday.

Gulistan-e-Jauhar head constable Paryal Shah and a team of other law enforcers from his station rushed to a house in Block 2 near Kamran Chowrangi where a robbery was in progress. The robbers opened fire at the police and killed Shah. SHO Ejaz Rajpar and ASI Imdad were injured. When the police retaliated, they managed to shoot down a suspected robber as well.

According to ASI Ismail Memon, two more members of the same gang were killed later when another police team raided the criminal's hideout nearby. Another member of this group is still on the run. The bodies of the three robbers were shifted to the Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth for identification.

Ode to Shah

The deceased policeman, Paryal Shah, was posted to Gulistan-e-Jauhar police station for the last seven years. His funeral prayers were offered at Police Headquarters in Garden and were attended by a large number of police officials, his family members and relatives.
