Symbols issued for PP-240 by-polls

Election symbols and a list of candidates for by-elections in PP-240 were issued by the returning officer on Saturday.


Talking to newsmen, Returning Officer Rana Abid Ghaffar said the by-election would be held on January 17.


He said 16 hopefuls, including one with a Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) ticket, would contest in the polls. He said Javed Karim had been allotted the symbol of a camera, Khawaja Mohammad Dawood Sulaimani had been a goat; Gul Muhammad Qasrani a lantern; Hussain Malghani parrot, Rehmatullah Khan audio cassette, Sardar Aijazur Rehman Khetran rabbit, Sardar Imam Baksh Qasrani bottle, Sardar Javed Iqbal Qasrani alligator, Sardar Qaisar Waseem Qasrani bucket, Sardar Muhammad Ayub Khan rooster, Abid Muhammad Bakhai suitcase, Qaiser Raza Qasrani guitar, Raheel Ajmal Leghari duck, Muhammad Riaz Qasrani stapler and Muhamamd Zahid Asim electric heater.

He said Mumtaz Ahmad Qasrani, who had been awarded a ticket by the PML-N, had been allotted the party symbol, tiger.

He said there were complaints by some candidates that PML-N had not issued a ticket for the by-elections. Ghaffar said he had verified Mumtaz Qasrani’s documents before awarding him the symbol.
