ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday ordered the suspension of Senior Superintendent of Islamabad Police Asmatullah Junejo and another officer for showing leniency to the activists of a religious outfit arrested on charges of displaying weapons.

SSP Islamabad and acting SHO of Shahzad Town Police Station Anees Akbar were suspended for not booking a leader of Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jamaat Mufti Tanvir Alam and his eight accomplices for displaying weapons in violation of section 144 imposed in the federal capital.

Instead of booking all of the arrested persons for violating section 144, the police authorities booked them under sections 13, 20 and 65 separately, showing leniency toward the activists of the religious outfit.

According to a government’s spokesman, the prime minister ordered the action against the police officers to make them an example for other officers of the police and law enforcement agencies particularly at a time when the country was faced with menace of terrorism.

The prime minister said his government was striving to ensure rule of law in the country and action would be taken against both the criminals as well as their facilitators.

Well done PM. This is the only way to get the cowards whether in police or lower judiciary to show some professionalism.
