FAISALABAD: Two infants died at district headquarters hospital in Sargodha on Tuesday. DHQ hospital spokesman Dr Sikandar Warraich told The Express Tribune that the two children had been born prematurely. Their deaths were not a result of negligence on the part of hospital staff, he said. Warraich admitted that there was a lack of facilities and staff at the hospital, “but we are doing our best to provide the best possible treatment to all patients.” In the last 42 days, 77 children have died at the hospital. According to hospital records, 2,239 children have died at the hospital in the last two years. Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has taken notice of the deaths and ordered an inquiry. Earlier, the chief minister had appointed a team to probe the infants’ death at the DHQ hospital after which Medical Superintendent Dr Iqbal Sami was suspended.
