FAISALABAD: A Faculty of Food, Nutrition and Home Sciences has been established at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF). The announcement was made on Tuesday by UAF Vice Chancellor Iqrar Ahmad Khan while chairing a meeting of Graduate Studies Research Board. Prof Masood Sadiq Butt has been appointed the dean of the new faculty. Khan said that the new department would help address the issue of malnutrition, promote value-added products, halal food science and train manpower for the emerging food industry. “Quality education and demand-driven research will pave the way for development and help cope with unemployment and poverty,” he said. He urged staff to take steps to maintain the quality of education. “Currently, 19,000 students are enrolled at the university,” he said. He said that the university was planning to launch a degree on gender development.
