The Pakistan Football Federation hosted its first ever international women’s championship in November, a step that brought teams from seven different countries from the region to Islamabad.
However, the hosts crashed out in the group stages against evidently superior sides but their performances did see them receive plaudits, as India, Sri Lanka and Nepal all praised the way Pakistan played.
Having also won the first two editions, defending champions India managed to make it three in a row as they defeated Nepal in the final, with the two teams having also contested the previous two finals.
“Pakistan have improved a lot,” India coach Tarun Roy had told The Express Tribune. “The team is competitive and the players have great fitness levels.”
Meanwhile, Pakistan captain Hajrah Khan said the championship was just a beginning for the Pakistan women’s team.
