Chief bureaucrat: Asif likely to be next chief secretary

Nadeem Hassan Asif is likely to become the next chief of bureaucracy in the Punjab, The Express Tribune has learnt. The decision incumbent Chief Secretary Naveed Akram Cheema is set for retirement on January 1. Requesting anonymity, a senior official of the Services and General Administration Department said the government was planning to field three officers for posting as chief secretary – Shahid Khan, Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad and Asif. All three officers are currently posted in the federal government. The S&GAD official said the government would send a notification for Asif’s posting as chief secretary in a day or two. Asif has previously served as deputy commissioner, home secretary, Lahore commissioner, additional chief secretary and principal secretary to the chief minister. He was posted in the federal government by the caretaker government on June 23, 2013. He is in BS-22 and is scheduled to retire on January 9, 2018.
