Pti riots: Minister, MPA record their statements
Chief bureaucrat: Asif likely to be next chief secretary
FAISALABAD:
State Minister for Water and Power Chaudhary Abid Sher Ali and Provincial Assembly Member (MPA) Tahir Jameel on Monday appeared before the joint investigation team (JIT) constituted for investigation of the death of a Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) worker on December 8. They recorded their statements by submitting affidavits. Later, talking to newsmen, Sher Ali said he was not involved in the incident. “If any links are proven between me and those seeking to disrupt PTI’s protest, I will turn myself in,” he said. He said he had been implicated in the case out of maliciousness and political point-scoring. MPA Tahir Jameel also rejected allegations of being involved in the December 8 riots. “I don’t know who imagined a meeting where they saw me and Sher Ali planning to destabilise the protest,” he said. “I am sure, however, that I was not there for it.” He said the case should be investigated on merit. “We will cooperate with the police,” he said.
