National Action Plan: NACTA to hold maiden meeting on Dec 31
Finding to be shared with PM Nawaz soon
ISLAMABAD:
The first-ever meeting of the National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta) will open on Wednesday in anticipation of the effort to implement the National Action Plan on eliminating militancy.
The authority, after getting the parliament’s nod last year, will kick off its operation against armed militias, proscribed organisations (operating inside and outside of the country), terror on the internet and insurgency in Balochistan next week.
“We are going to finalise our thoughts on the National Action Plan (NAP) on Wednesday – also will focus on implementation of the internal national security policy,” Nacta national coordinator Hamid Ali Khan told The Express Tribune.
“Within two days, we will send our findings to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif,” he said. “The PM will give us the go-ahead to our operative plan next week.”
Emphasising on better cooperation, he said: “We are developing a new cohesion among all intelligence bodies with one objective – counter terrorism.”
Nacta’s national coordinator stated that the issue of manpower, infrastructure and cohesion with counter terrorism bodies will be discussed in the meeting. Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan will chair this important meeting where senior officials of intelligence agencies, home departments, etc. will participate, the proposed agenda noted.
Before this Chaudhry Nisar will also give a presentation to PM Nawaz on all the proscribed organisations and armed militias on Tuesday as well as how to execute the NAP.
The interior minister is supervising 11 committees which will make recommendations to execute national action plan, the officials added.
The Nacta meeting will discuss how to stop the re-emergence of banned organisations, according to the proposed agenda which continued to reveal that officials will also discuss the issue of eliminating armed militias from all the provinces including Fata.
Another key part of this agenda includes that the committee members will also steer a second committee that will make recommendations on how to counter hate speech and extremist material. In proposed agenda of Thursday, the meeting will also discuss how to form counter-terrorism force and ensure its deployment by May 31, 2015.
