SHEIKHUPURA: Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanvir Hussain said on Sunday that military courts were a joint decision of the military and political leaders  of the country.

He said concerns of all political parties had been addressed before the decision was made. He said the aim of military courts was to try terrorists. He said they would not be used for political purposes.

He said military courts and courts established during martial law were greatly different. He said PPP co-chairman Asif Zardari had been assured that there would be democratic checks on the special courts.

He said Pakistan would soon be purged of all kinds of terrorism. “It is imperative that people of the country unite with their leaders to put an end to terrorism forever,” he added.

He said talks with the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf would be a success. He said it was an encouraging sigh that the civilian and military leadership was united against terrorism. “People should not imagine problems between Nawaz Sharif and Raheel Sharif because there are none,” he said. He said the prime minister and the COAS were working for the people of Pakistan.
