FAISALABAD/ NOSHERA VIRKAN: Ghulam Muhammadabad police registered cases against six people on Thursday for attacking a Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) office.

The Ghulam Muhammadabad SHO said that the FESCO teams conducted a raid in Siddhupura and detected two cases of electricity theft. “The FESCO staff then removed the meters of the consumers. When the teams returned to their Faizabad office, a mob assaulted them and damaged furniture. The FESCO employees were also threatened with dire consequences,” the SHO said.

“We have now registered two separate cases against six suspects and started an investigation,” the SHO said.

He said that a police team had been formed to look for the suspects. Later on Thursday, Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Naeem Saleem on Wednesday ordered the registration of a case against the FESCO Faizabad sub divisional officer (SDO) and other staff. Ali Abid, a lawyer, filed a petition before the court, claiming that the FESCO staff had beaten him.

“I went to the FESCO Faizabad office to seek restoration of my electricity meter. However, the SDO, the meter inspector, the line superintendent and their seven other unidentified accomplices attacked me and subjected me to severe beating. They also took my wallet, containing Rs25,000. They then locked me in a room and threatened me with dire consequences,” he stated.

“When I raised a hue and cry, my neighbours gathered on the spot and freed me,” he said.

After hearing the petition, the judge issued orders for the registration of a case against the SDO and 10 accomplices. The court directed the Ghulam Muhammadabad police to submit a copy of the FIR in the court at the earliest.
