Staying vigilant: Night-time curfew imposed in Shabqadar

Schools asked to hire watchmen round-the-clock, beef up security.

SHABQADAR:
A nighttime curfew has been imposed in Sro Kalay area of Shabqadar from Thursday, said the police.

An official cited recent security threats as the reason to impose a curfew on areas bordering Mohmand Agency and Peshawar district. He added the restriction will remain in place from 6pm to 6am, adding Section 144 has also been imposed on motorcycle riding.

Meanwhile, police have reviewed security arrangements of all private schools in Shabqadar and Tangi, following similar measures in Charsadda town. DSP Abdul Rasheed called a meeting of the owners and principals of all private schools, asking them to arrange watchmen to guard the schools round-the-clock. The DSP told owners and principals they could hire retired security officials for the purpose, adding CCTV cameras should also be installed at the schools’ premises.

Moreover, students should be thoroughly checked before being allowed to enter. DSP Rasheed said the school administration would be responsible for any mishap.

Police officials also met watchmen of cellular towers of private service providers, asking them to remain vigilant and inform the police of any suspicious activity.

There are dozens of private schools in Shabqadar, with most having inadequate security arrangements despite the fact that more than 30 schools have been destroyed in bombings in the area.
