Cooperation: Fazl supports action against unregistered seminaries

Maulana Fazlur Rehman says his party will continue cooperation with govt in its efforts to wipe out terrorism

ISLAMABAD:

Misunderstanding is being created regarding role of religious seminaries which is the biggest network of education in the country, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference, Fazl said that his party would continue cooperation with the government in its efforts to wipe out terrorism from the country. Sectarian harmony was the aim and responsibility of the Majlis-e-Ulema, he said.

Fazl said JUI-F had opposed targeting of seminaries on the pretext of terrorism, adding legal action should only be taken against unregistered seminaries. He said Peshawar incident was a heinous crime against humanity and culprits should be given harsh punishment. Fazal asserted that only banning hate and provocative literature was not enough and demanded stern action against writers and publishers as well.
