FAISALABAD:
Hundreds of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) activists on Wednesday staged a sit-in at the City Police Officer’s (CPO) office, seeking arrest of former law minister Rana Sanaullah and District Coordination Officer Noorul Amin Mengal over the killing of a PTI worker on December 8.
The protesters chanted slogans against the government, police and the district administration. They carried placards and posters bearing messages like “arrest Haq Nawaz’s killers immediately” and “An eye for an eye.”
The protest was led by PTI Student Wing president Mian Farrukh Habib, MPA Khurram Sheikh, central coordinator Asad Muazzam and district president Rana Ahmad Raheel Minhas.
Attaullah, elder brother of deceased PTI activist Haq Nawaz, also participated in the protest.
Addressing the protesters, Habib said the government and the police were not serious about proceeding against those responsible for Nawaz’s death.
Muazzam said, “PTI has expressed reservation about the investigation team but no steps have been taken to reassure us that the investigation would be impartial,” he said.
The PTI leaders said if Rana Sanaullah was not arrested and officials of ISI, MI and IB did not join the investigation team, they would stage a sit-in at the CPO’s office every day. They said they would also protest at Sanaullah’s house if he did not turn himself in.
Later, CPO Sohail Tajik met with the protesters and told them that an application would be sent to the government to change the investigation team. He assured them that the investigation would be free and fair.
