Crackdown: Two ‘TTP members’ killed in shootout

Two suspected robbers, who were looting passers-by, shot dead during encounter in Sacchal.

Two suspected militants and as many robbers were killed in separate shootouts with law enforcement agencies on Wednesday. Eight suspects were also arrested in various city areas.

Police said they had killed two Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants during an encounter in Surjani early on Wednesday.

They said a patrolling team had signalled four suspects, riding two motorcycles, to stop but they opened fire.

Police retaliated by killing two suspects, identified as Adnan and Baran. The remaining two suspects fled. The bodies were sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsies. SHO Naveed Nasir confirmed that the deceased had links with the TTP.

Earlier on Tuesday night, police said they had killed two robbers during a shootout in Sacchal area.

They said the robbers were looting passers-by when a patrolling team reached there. They were killed following a brief shootout with police.


The bodies were sent to the Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth for identification after medico-legal formalities were completed at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

Arrests

The Crime Investigation Department (CID) said that they had arrested a target killer and a man accused of stealing cars in separate raids in Orangi Town.

Umair alias Navela had been involved in more than 30 cases of target killing. Nabeel was wanted in various cases of vehicle theft.

Separately, Saudabad police arrested three drug peddlers - Ahsan, Sheran and Zeeshan Farooq - during a raid at Liaquat Market, and recovered a huge cache of drugs from them.

Law enforcement agencies arrested three other suspects, including a member of a religious outfit, during a raid in Ranchore Lane area. They were taken to an undisclosed location for interrogation.
