Martial law better than military courts: Altaf

MQM chief suggests army chief take over government affairs for two years to hold all traitors accountable

KARACHI:
Muttahida Qoumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has asked army chief General Raheel Sharif to take control of government affairs for two years and hold all those who looted the country accountable.

“…My statement would be taken as an endorsement for martial law but in reality there is no party in Pakistan, which does not have or had contact with the military.”

While addressing a telephonic conference in Karachi via London, Altaf said that rather than setting up military courts, it is better that another martial law is imposed in Pakistan.

The MQM chief argued that if a non-democratic way has to be adopted in the country, it is better that martial law is imposed.

“…We have seen many martial laws…let there be another one,” he said.

Altaf went on to add that those who migrated to Pakistan were labelled as traitors but still the MQM chants the slogan of ‘Pakistan Zindabad’.

The MQM chief argued that whoever believes Pakistan can be saved by the armed forces is wrong; the entire nation has to stand behind the army.

“Army cannot achieve anything without the nation’s support,” he said. “Military has had a role in revolutions across the world but even civilians stood beside them.”
