Regular Service: LHWs move plea against CM
ISLAMABAD:
A petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Tuesday seeking contempt of court action against Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for not complying with the court’s orders, issued on March 7, 2013, to regularise lady health workers in the province. Petitioner Bushra Arain, who has been pursuing the case in the apex court for three years, filed the petition under Article 204 of the Constitution. She nominated Sharif, Chief Secretary Anwar Cheema, the health secretary and Adviser to CM on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique as respondents. Arain said the court had intervened and accorded LHWs recognition as public servants and ordered a pay scale for them. However, in the government’s notification, LHWs had been referred to as members of an autonomous body rather than civil service. The petitioner requested the court to initiate contempt proceedings against the respondents.
