In court: CM requests transfer of case

KARACHI:

The hearing of Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah's plea to transfer the rigging proceeding against him from the Karachi election tribunal was adjourned till January 5 on Tuesday.

Headed by Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi, the bench fixed January 5 for hearing of the plea. Shah had won the election on the provincial assembly seat, PS-29, from the Khairpur district. However, the defeated candidate, Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz’s Ghous Ali Shah, approached the election tribunal against alleged rigging.

Advocate Farooq H Naek said that the petitioner had requested the Election Commission of Pakistan for the transfer because, according to Shah, the head of the Karachi election tribunal, Zafar Ahmed Khan Sherwani, was prejudiced against the Pakistan Peoples Party. He alleged that the tribunal may also nullify the results of PS-29 because its head had allegedly made up his mind against Shah.
