Call for action: Expressing solidarity with Lal Masjid protesters
The protesters were carrying posters that read, “No airtime for Taliban” and “Reclaim our mosques, arrest Abdul Aziz.”
LAHORE:
Nearly 100 people gathered at Liberty Chowk on Monday evening and protested against police for failing to arrest Maulana Abdul Aziz over his remarks on the massacre in Peshawar December 16.
The protesters, including women and young children, were carrying posters that read, “No airtime for Taliban” and “Reclaim our mosques, arrest Abdul Aziz.”
They also chanted slogans against the Taliban and expressed solidarity with the families of the children killed and injured in the army school.
Hiba Akbar, one of the protesters, told The Express Tribune that they had gathered at Liberty Chowk to show solidarity with the protesters at Lal Masjid, Islamabad.
“This is a call for our countrymen to wake up and take a stand,” she said. “We invited people to get off Facebook and take collective action.”
She said these protests should serve as a message for the government and the armed forces that it was time serious efforts were taken to curb terrorism.
