Equal opportunity: Homeopaths demand recognition by government

LAHORE:

When vacancies for doctors are announced in India, they are distributed among homeopathic and allopathic doctors. Pakistan’s government should improve standards of homeopathic education and induct homeopathic doctors in the public sector, Dr Hafizullah, former member of the National Council for Homeopathy (NCH), said on Friday.

He was speaking at a prize distribution ceremony of the Homeopathic Medical College. He said the government has taken some positive steps. Making the Diploma in Homeopathic Medical System equivalent to a BSc was one, he said.

NCH president Dr Mahmood-ul-Haq Abbasi said the council’s exam system was being revamped and they were trying to ensure transparency. HMC Principal Dr Zaigham Hafeez said they were trying to link homeopathic doctors with allopathic ones. “At the provincial level, the Health Department should take homeopathic doctors onboard and raise awareness among people.” He said this would help alleviate the burden on the healthcare system.
