Kate Winslet next in line for Jobs

Michael Fassbender will take role of late Apple CEO in the biopic directed by Danny Boyle.

Academy Award winning actor is in negotiation to play the female lead in the upcoming biopic, Jobs, reported the entertainment magazine Variety. Kate Winslet is known for her dramatic performances such as Titanic, Divergent, All the King’s Men, Finding Neverland and The Reader.

It is yet to be clarified what role Winslet is being eyed for but the main female parts in the movie are believed to be of Steve Jobs’ daughter Lisa Brennan and Katie Cotton the former Public Relations lead of Apple.

Winslet will next be seen in the science fiction action film Insurgent which is the second installment in the Divergent film series. The actor rose to fame with her performances in the 1996 adaptation of the tragedy-drama Hamlet as Ophelia and then as Rose in The Titanic.

In an interview with the British publication, The Independent, the screenwriter Aaron Sorkin revealed that Steve Jobs’ daughter Lisa will be an integral character in the film. Steve Jobs had initially denied the paternity of his daughter, but eventually reconnected with her when she was in her teenage years.

He further stated that, “She (Lisa Brennan-Jobs) is the heroine of the movie.”

Several high profile actors have already dropped out of the film which has been a major obstacle in the film taking shape. Earlier Academy Award winner, Natalie Portman was supposedly in talks to play a major lead in the film but pulled out of negotiations earlier this month.

Another actor being eyed for the film is The Help actor, Jessica Chastain.

Casting problems have not only been restricted to the female actors as the casting directors faced similar problems while casting an actor for the titular role of Steve Jobs. After Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale passed on the role of the late Apple CEO, German-Irish actor Michael Fassbender assumed the mantle in the movie which will be directed by Danny Boyle.

Meanwhile Seth Rogen who is known for his funny roles will be playing the role of Steve Wozniak.

The website for Variety further stated that Jeff Daniels is still in consideration for the part of former president of Apple John Sculley. Whereas Michael Stuhlberg, better known for his part as the crime Arnold Rothstein on the HBO crime-drama Broadwalk Empire, will play the character of Andy Hertzferd who was one of the members of the original Macintosh development team.

The movie which is owned by the Universal Pictures is based on a script penned by screenwriter Aaron Sorkin from Walter Isaacson’s Steve Jobs biopic. The movie will reportedly consist of three continuous 30-minute scenes that will cover three product launches by Steve Jobs such as NeXT cube, the original Mac, and the iPod.
