Riot death: Police granted physical remand of three suspects

FAISALABAD:

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Saturday granted seven days’ physical remand of three men suspected of killing a Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) activist on December 8 at Novelty Bridge.

Muhammad Elyas Haidar, Muhammad Imran and Usman Ali were presented before the ATC.

Prosecution sought their remand for 14 days. The prosecutor said police wanted to recover weapons used in killing the PTI worker and question the suspects.

The court granted physical remand for seven days and directed police to bring them to court on December 27. The court also directed police to complete the investigation as soon as possible.

The court further directed police to set up a joint investigation team to probe the killing.

The prosecutor said a formal request for the constitution of the JIT had been sent to the Home Department. He said the team would be formed within 24 hours.
