ISLAMABAD: Politicians, columnists and bureaucrats, while condemning the brutal act of terrorism in Peshawar said that the incident had united the nation in the fight to eradicate the menace of religious extremism.

These views were expressed at the launch ceremony of National Highways and Motorway Police Inspector General Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema’s book “Do Toke Batein” here at Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, K-P Governor Sardar Mehtab Abbasi paid rich tributes to those who lost their lives in the Peshawar attack. He said entire nation was standing with the armed forces in their effort to eradicate terrorism from the country.

Senator Raja Zafarul Haq said that Cheema was a man of high moral character and wherever he had served, the locals had witnessed his success.

He said that the book gave hope for tomorrow and the youth must read it.

Former federal minister Qamar Zaman Kaira noted that the book starts from Cheema’s affection for his mother and ends with his love for the motherland.

He said that the IG considered his subordinates as a member of his family and state organisations his home.

Kaira said, “Today the entire [political] leadership needs this spirit to overcome the current crisis in the country.”

Columnist Izharul Haq was of the view that Cheema was not appointed as IG Punjab or Sindh only because he was an honest and upright person.

Supreme Court Registrar Syed Tahir Shabaz also praised IG’s professional career and his book.

Former minister Dr Sania Nishter said that Cheema’s writings leave a deep impression on the minds of the reader.

The IG said that Peshawar tragedy had united the nation and the country would overcome the menace of terrorism.

The book is published by Khalid Sharif, MD Mavra Publishers.
