
Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced Rs1 million compensation on Friday for slain Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chiniot vice-president Asghar Abbas Jafri’s kin.
Jafri was killed by unidentified assailants on Wednesday. The chief minister made the announcement while speaking to a four-member MQM delegation. The delegation included National Assembly Member (MNA) Sajid Ahmed, Punjab president Mian Atiq, Markazi Rabita Committee member Gul Faraz Khattak and north Punjab zonal head Atiq Abbasi.

Shahbaz said the killing had saddened him. He said he had spoken to Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad and had assured him that action would be taken against those who had killed the deceased. Sharif said he would personally review progress of the case. The chief minister directed police to quickly apprehend those responsible for the killings. Sharif also constituted a committee under the leadership of Home Minister Shuja Khanzada to probe the incidents.
The committee will include MQM officials and the heirs of the deceased. Sharif also announced a Rs1 million compensation for Jafri’s kin on the occasion. Mian Atiq thanked the chief minister for taking personal interest in the case.
Speaking to The Express Tribune, Khattak said the delegation had called on the chief minister to ensure that action was taken against those who had killed Tahira Asif, Baoo Anwar and Jafri. Khattak said the CM had assured the delegation that those responsible for the killing would be taken to task.
Minister Khanzada, MNA Ghulam Muhammad Lali, former law minister Rana Sanaullah and Provincial Assembly Members (MPAs) Manshaullah Butt, Imtiaz Ahmed Lali and Saqlain Anwar Sipla were also present on the occasion.
