SUKKUR: Shah Abdul Latif University (Salu) is bringing history writing down to the district level. Professor Dr Abdullah Phulpoto, Salu pro-vice chancellor, presided over the inaugural session of a two-day workshop on “State of Local and District History Writing in Pakistan” on Tuesday.

The seminar was organised by the department of Pakistan Studies in collaboration with the National Institute of Historical and Cultural Research (NICHR) centre of excellence Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad.

The purpose of holding the workshop is to learn how to write history at a local level in a systematic and scientific manner, said Professor Dr Imdad Hussain Sahito, chairman of the department. They also hope to promote interaction among research scholars and historians.

The former Khairpur state is rich in cultural heritage and it is our responsibility to investigate the culture, politics and economics of the region and record it, said Dr Naseem Ahmad Maitlo, a senior research fellow from NICHR.
