Suffocation: Factory workers fall unconscious
The factory is situated in Landhi
KARACHI:
Around two dozen factory workers, mostly female, fell unconscious due to suffocation while working at a garments factory in the outskirts of the city on Thursday evening. The factory is situated in Landhi. The affected women were first taken to a nearby hospital, from where they were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for treatment. “There was no gas leakage in the factory,” said Quaidabad SHO Amanullah Marwat. “The windows were shut due to the cold weather, which caused suffocation and women became unconscious. Male workers were also there in the hall but most of them survived in the suffocating environment.” A total of 22 women and two men were brought to the JPMC for treatment. “They all are fine but we have kept them under observation,” said JPMC deputy executive director Dr Seemin Jamali while talking to The Express Tribune. “We will release them soon.”
