Seeking tort tribunals: SHC calls rejoinder from Centre

The officer requested time to file a counter-affidavit

KARACHI:
The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday called a rejoinder from the federal government on a petition seeking the establishment of courts and tribunals to settle matters relating to torts by the government or government officials. Petitioner Ata Hussain Maitlo said that the 1973 Constitution mandated such tribunals but they had yet to be established. A federal law officer said that the Centre had already established federal ombudsmen for this purpose, but the petitioner’s lawyer rebutted that this was not in accordance with the Constitution. The officer requested time to file a counter-affidavit.
