KARACHI:

The newly appointed Rabita Committee of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) addressed its first press conference on Friday to complain about the target killings of their workers.

"We are now tired of receiving the bodies of our people," said MQM member Ghazi Salahuddin at a joint press conference at the party headquarters, Nine Zero. "The situation will become worse if the government fails to control the situation."

Ghazi Salahuddin was accompanied by other members of the Rabita Committee, including Kahfilwara, Arif Khan Advocate, Gulfaraz Khan Khattak, Imbisat Malik, Dr Salim Danish, Dr Ayub Shaikh, Qasim Ali Raza, Mustafa Azizabadi and Izhar Ahmed Khan. The Rabita Committee members demanded the prime minister, the federal interior minister, Sindh chief minister, governor and the Rangers director-general to take action against the people involved in these killings. Salahuddin accused the Pakistan Peoples Party-led government of patronising criminals who have turned Chanesar Goth into another Lyari. "A gangster has killed Qadir Bux Lasi, an activist of the MQM's Karachi Mazafati Organising Committee in Chansear Goth," he pointed out. "Instead of taking action, the government is patronising the smugglers."

According to Salahuddin, around six workers of his party have either been killed or injured in Chanesar Goth.
