In protest: PTI observes day of mourning across Sindh
Party workers and supporters offer funeral prayers for the worker who was killed in Faisalabad
SUKKUR/HYDERABAD/KARACHI:
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) continued its protests in Karachi for the second consecutive day to voice their resentment against the killing of their worker in Faisalabad.
Dozens of party activists, holding placards and shouting slogans against the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N), gathered at Regal Chowk on Tuesday evening to demonstrate against what they termed ‘state terrorism’.
The party's president for Karachi, Najeeb Haroon, called the slain activist, Haq Nawaz, a martyr, and accused the government of state terrorism. Regarding the December 12 shutdown in Karachi, he said that the protests will be peaceful. "The whole of Karachi will observe the shutdown with us and come at our sit-ins to build a Naya Pakistan."
On Tuesday evening, the party's activists held a vigil at Teen Talwar to mark the death of their fellow worker in Faisalabad. 'Go Nawaz Go' screamed the women and men standing near the lit-up candles.
Meanwhile, parliamentarian Samar Ali Khan distributed pamphlets, requesting people to close down their businesses on Friday. "We appeal to the people to observe the day with us and show that they want a change in the system," he said. Khan said that the city would be observing a day of silence, however, they were not sure there won't be violence as they had information about some miscreants who might sabotage their protest. He added that he would be closing down his business on Friday and would instead be working on Sunday.
In Hyderabad
The party's workers staged sit-ins and protest demonstrations to observe the day of mourning in the districts of Hyderabad, Nawabshah and Mirpurkhas divisions. They also offered funeral prayers in absentia for the PTI worker who was killed in Faisalabad on Monday. In Hyderabad, the protesters blocked Meeran Muhammad Shah Road outside the press club for an hour.
Protest demonstrations were also held in Jamshoro, Tando Allahyar, Dadu, Thatta, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Tharparkar and Sanghar districts.
Upper Sindh
Protest demonstrations were held in several cities of Upper Sindh too, where the workers and supporters of the PTI arranged sit-ins and prayed for the deceased as well as injured workers in Faisalabad. The protesters took to the streets in Sukkur, Ghotki, Kashmore-Kandhkot, Shikarpur, Khairpur, Larkana and other major cities and towns.
