KARACHI: A toddler, a teenager, a woman and two men were killed while three others were seriously injured in a head-on collision between two cars near Abbas intersection on Northern Bypass on Monday evening.

Following the accident, rescue workers reached the site and shifted the bodies and injured to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Muhammad Asif, a volunteer who retrieved the bodies from the cars, said that three people had died on the spot while two others succumbed to injuries at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Though the victims have yet to be identified, Asif said that a one-year-old toddler, a 14-year-old boy and a woman were among the dead.

Police officials had not yet ascertained the cause of the accident but claimed that investigations were underway. There were reports that a trawler also hit the cars, a Suzuki Mehran and a Toyota Corolla, but Gulshan-e-Maymar SHO Zakirullah said that the collision was between the two cars, adding that the police was trying to trace their heirs to identify them.
