Ending violence: Peace Pole inaugurated at Gor Gathri

This is the first time a peace pole has been put up in Peshawar

PESHAWAR:

A ceremony to inaugurate the Peace Pole at Gor Gathri was held on Monday.

This is the first time a peace pole has been put up in Peshawar, End Violence against Women and Girls (EVAWG) Alliance Co-Chairman for Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Fida Muhammad told The Express Tribune. He stressed on building a society where gender-based violence is deemed offensive, perpetrators are held accountable and victims are dealt with the compassion, support and justice they deserve.

‘May Peace Prevail on Earth’ was painted in four languages on the pole.

The campaign was first initiated in 1991 by Women’s Global Leadership Institute with the help of Centre for Women’s Global Leadership. It is meant to contribute to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s campaign UNiTE to End Violence against Women.

In K-P, co-chairman of Violence against Women and Girls (EVAWG) Alliance has joined hands with other social organisations to mark the ‘16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence’.
