DERA GHAZI KHAN: Transporters in the city protested on Saturday against the District Transport Authority secretary for launching a crackdown over their failure to revise fares. They blocked Pull Daat. They demanded that the government transfer the secretary, Azhar Hassan. The government had announced a cut in transport fares following a decline in petroleum prices. The secretary had issued a notice to the transporters asking them to implement the  decision. The transporters The Express Tribune spoke to accused the secretary and his staff of imposing fines over mild violations. They said passengers sometimes got down before reaching their destination. Some of such passengers said the transporters were overcharging. On the request of the DCO, Hassan assured the protesters that no action would be taken against them until the government issued a new fares schedule. The transporters then ended their protest.
