Pakistan men win handball challenge trophy

Hosts beat Yemen 39-22; women’s side finish as runners-up

KARACHI:
Pakistan men team clinched the International Handball Federation Challenge Trophy title as they defeated Yemen 39-22 in the final at the Agriculture University of Faisalabad on Sunday.

Hosts Pakistan remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, while Afghanistan finished in third place after beating Bangladesh 38-30.

Pakistan captain Imran Khan said that the home advantage played a big role in their win. “We have been training at this ground for the past two months which helped us a lot, while the absence of defending champions India also made the competition relatively easier,” said Imran.

In the women’s event, Pakistan lost the final by 22-34 to Bangladesh, who were crowned champions, while Yemen defeated Nepal 30-25 to secure third place.
