Forced conversion: Woman says SHO not registering her complaint

Christian woman seeks registration of case against man who she said had married her after forcing her to embrace Islam

LAHORE:

An additional district and sessions judge sought comments on Friday from the Nishtar Colony SHO on a petition filed by a Christian woman seeking registration of a case against a man who she said had married her after forcing her into embracing Islam.

The petitioner told the court that on November 8 a man kidnapped her, took her to an unfamiliar place and forcibly got her signatures on a blank paper. She said she was forced to recite kalma at gunpoint. She said the man had also arranged a forged nikkah nama (marriage deed) with help from a prayer leader. She said she had escaped when she got the opportunity. She said three other people had abetted the crime.

The petitioner said she had requested the SHO to register an FIR against the suspects but he did not take any action. She then requested the court to direct the police officer to register a case against the suspects she had identified.
