Busted: Gang of robbers arrested

Police said the robbers had motorcycles with number plates carrying police insignia

Iqbal Town CIA police claimed on Friday to have arrested a gang of robbers who would disguise themselves as policemen and ambush travellers. Police said they had so far killed 11 people, including a constable, for resisting and injured 16, including an FIA constable. Police said the gang had more than 52 cases registered against them.


The suspects were identified as Muhammad Usman alias Gujjar; Shakir Ali; Rehman; Shahzad alias Gugu; Javed alias Kerry; Ali Hassan Baloch alias Sindhi; Riaz Hussain; Tariq alias Taaqi; and Asif. Police said the robbers had motorcycles with number plates carrying police insignia. The robbers have confessed to killing a man from Chichawatni, Sahiwal, they said. Police said Rehman, one of the gang members, was a rickshaw driver who would inform Usman, the gang leader, about passengers he picked up from various banks.Police said the gang members had also confessed to injuring FIA Constable Farhat Abbas and his son on Campus Bridge. The robbers had waylaid them on the bridge, when Abbas resisted, they shot him and his son.

Police recovered two cars, a rickshaw, a motorcycle and unlicensed weapons from them. Investigation DIG Shahzad Sultan announced cash prizes and certificates for the policemen who nabbed the gang.
