Connecting communities: MT Khan Road gets pedestrian bridge

He also urged the people to protect the youth from unhealthy habits

KARACHI:
In a ceremony opening a pedestrian bridge on the busy Maulvi Tamizuddin Khan Road on Friday, the residents of Sultanabad and Hijrat Colony thanked the administration for connecting the two thickly-populated localities. They said that the thoroughfare, frequented by trailers and other heavy vehicles, had turned into a site of death and injury for pedestrians attempting to cross it. Karachi commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said on the occasion that the administration, which was committed to address the needs of the people, had also inaugurated a community centre in the area. He also urged the people to protect the youth from unhealthy habits by launching community-level campaigns against addictive habits, such as gutka, pan and sheesha. Meanwhile, former union council nazim Sharif Awan drew Siddiqui’s attention towards long-pending projects, such as the construction of a degree college and a basic health unit, as well as encroachments.
