A threatening gift: BDS experts defuse hand grenade

A case has been registered and further investigations are underway

KARACHI:

A hand grenade delivered in a parcel to threaten a trader in Federal B Area was defused by the experts of the bomb disposal squad (BDS).

At least four men travelling in a car handed a parcel to the security guard of Block 13, Federal B Area, on the night between Wednesday and Thursday and escaped. The security guard informed the police that the men told him to deliver the parcel to a trader, Muhammad Ismail, who used to live in the same area.

Police officials said that Ismail found the grenade in the parcel and informed the police. An extra contingent of law enforcers reached the site and also summoned the BDS experts who helped defuse it.

Ismail used to run his own business and had recently received an extortion slip demanding Rs1 million from him. The unidentified extortionists also warned of dire consequences. Police officials added that they were trying to draw the sketches of the culprits with the help of the security guard. A case has been registered and further investigations are underway.
