Fashion line: David Beckham follows wife’s suit
Football star set to launch his own fashion line after sponsorship deals with H&M, Adidas
Former footballer and style icon David Beckham and his business partner Simon Fuller are gearing up for the release his very own clothing line. He has reportedly signed a deal with Global Brands, a Hong Kong-based consumer brands supplier and spin-off company of Li & Fung, which distributes for luxury labels including Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, reported the Guardian. In doing so, he will be following in wife Victoria’s footsteps, who launched her eponymous label in 2008.
During a press conference, Beckham, Fuller and chief executive Global Brands, Bruce Rockowitz, stated that the deal will cover various products and will be distributed globally. “We won’t be building just one brand. Creating a sportswear or underwear line with David would be great but we want to do more,” Rockowitz said.
“This is a partnership that is very exciting for me. Throughout my career, I’ve had quite a few sponsorship deals but this takes it to a different level, a different area,” said Beckham. “I’ve gone from being in a sponsorship deal to now becoming an owner. It’s an area I’m really excited about,” he added.
Global Brands cited Beckham’s “star power and status as one of the world’s most famous sports and style icons,” and Fuller’s “deep understanding of consumers, talent, and sports and entertainment rights,” as the reasons behind the collaboration. Further details about the venture are yet to be disclosed.
So far, there are no plans for the Beckhams to join forces professionally. “Her business is separate from this, but obviously she’s part of this too because we’re partners,” he commented. “We’re husband and wife. She’s excited about this.” This is not the first time that Beckham has professionally designed for fashion brands. His previous collaborations include H&M, Adidas, Belstaff and his best-selling fragrance partnership with Coty Inc.
