FAISALABAD:

A murder suspect committed suicide for fear of arrest on Wednesday, police said.

City Police Officer (CPO) Sohail Habib Tajik told The Express Tribune that four armed men had intercepted Kamran Shehzad, a resident of Ghulam Muhammadabad, late on Tuesday night and taken away his motorbike at gunpoint. He said when he resisted, they shot him and fled. Shehzad was rushed to a hospital by some passers-by but he died on the way. The CPO said a team headed by Ghulam Muhammadabad station house officer set up pickets to find the robbers.

He said the men were surrounded at a picket and told to surrender. Tajik said three of them managed to escape while the fourth shot himself when he found no way out. Police said he had been identified as Zahid alias Zahdi, a resident of Sarfraz Colony. The CPO said he was wanted in connection with 19 robbery and murder cases.

He said a team had been constituted under the supervision of Gulberg Deputy Superintendent (DSP) Asadur Rehman to arrest Zahid’s accomplices.
