ISLAMABAD: Three dengue cases were reported within the municipal limits of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) in November.

Representatives of CDA’s Directorate of Health Services (DHS) informed a meeting at the CDA Headquarters to review the ongoing campaign against dengue fever that due to effective monitoring and massive anti-dengue campaign by DHS, the number of cases had witnessed a significant decline. The last case in this regard was reported on November 8, 2014.

The meeting, chaired by CDA Member Administration Amer Ali Ahmad, was informed that during this period a specially constituted team of DHS inspected some 1,403 potential dengue breeding sites including katchi abadis, mosques, markets, parks, hospitals and educational institutes in different areas of the city.

During inspections, 73 larvicidal activities and channelisation of seasonal streams were carried out besides anti-dengue spray and fumigation at around 989 places. Addtionally, in order to create awareness among the public, 5,000 informative pamphlets were distributed across the city.

Ahmad directed various formations of the authority to carry out coordinated efforts to make the capital free of dengue, and said due to the massive campaign, the number of cases remained less as compared to the other cities of the country.

He directed DHS to compile a comprehensive report in the light of previous experiences to help devise a comprehensive strategy for next year.
