Treason trial: Govt considers submitting presidential reference against inclusion of 'co-abettors'

The request was partially accepted when the court decided to include names of three senior ex-functionaries

ISLAMABAD:
The government is considering submitting a presidential reference against the special court's decision to include 'co-abettors' in the treason trial against former president Pervez Musharaf, Express News reported on Tuesday.

The former military ruler is being tried for holding the 1973 Constitution in abeyance and taking other emergency measures in 2007. Musharraf had requested to include the names of then civil and military leaders.

The request was partially accepted when the court decided to include the names of three senior ex-functionaries.

However, through the presidential reference, the government would argue that the special court does not have the authority to include others in the high-profile treason case.
