Maintenance Of Public Order: Case registered against ASWJ leader

FAISALABAD:
Jhang Kotwali police on Monday registered cases against 2,000 people, including Ahle Sunnat Wal-Jamaat chief Maulana Aurang Zaib Farooqi under section 16 of the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance. The station house officer (SHO) told The Express Tribune that Farooqi made his maiden visit to Jhang after being elected leader of the ASWJ. He said Farooqi and some other leaders had made controversial speeches at a mosque. He said the speeches were detrimental for public safety and maintenance of public order and were hurtful for minority communities. He said senior officials had reviewed footage of the speeches before deciding to register a case.  He said cases had been registered against 2,000 people including Farooqi, Maulana Muavia Azam, Hafiz Khalid Jhangvi, Malik Muneer Ahmad, Haji Muneer Ahmad Shahid alias Kala Pehalwan, Maunala Sarwar Jhangvi and others. However, no arrests were made, the SHO said. He said no one would be allowed to incite violence or encourage others to hurt minority communities.
