Mob attacks police station, frees two criminals

More than a hundred people, including women, attacked the Lakhidar police station in Shikarpur, and set two alleged criminals free. The police have arrested some of the attackers.


The people were carrying wooden sticks and firearms, raided the police station and held the policemen at gunpoint. The armed men reportedly broke the prison's lock and managed to free two criminals, identified as Hussain Bux Lohar Baloch and Sikandar Baloch.


A contingent of police rushed to the scene, fired teargas and baton-charged the mob. A few of the women fainted, while the police managed to arrest some of the attackers, including Muhammad Ramzan, Jagan, Arbelo, Abdul Nabi, Noor Hassan, Ghulam Nabi, Mohammad Yousuf, and Habibullah, while the others managed to flee along with the freed criminals. The attackers also snatched a rifle from a policeman, Sunder Khan Shujra, before fleeing.

Confirming the incident, Shikarpur DSP Abdul Qudoos Kalwar said that in the afternoon, Lakhidar police had arrested two criminals, Hussain Bux Lohar Baloch and Sikandar Lohar Baloch, because of their involvement in highway robberies and other crimes. In the evening, he added, more than 150 people raided and attacked the police station, broke into the lockup and freed both the criminals.
