Quaid-e-Azam Silver league: Nothing to separate PIA and SBP
Bankers require 94 runs with five wickets remaining
KARACHI:
The Quaid-e-Azam Silver league semi-final between PIA and SBP continues to balance on a knife’s edge as the tie still hangs in the balance at the end of day three.
Beginning the day on 134-5, some impressive batting by the tail helped PIA to 279 in their second innings to give SBP a target of 228 runs to make it to the final. However, Ali Imran has kept PIA in the tie by claiming all five wickets as SBP were 134-5 at stumps, still needing 94 runs to win.
An unbeaten 133-run seventh wicket stand between Asif Zakar, on 171, and Tariq Haroon, on 52, has helped SSGC come close to HBL’s first-innings score of 417. SSGC were 339-6 going into the fourth day, still 78 runs behind HBL. With the match almost certainly headed for a draw, the first innings is all the more crucial as the team claiming a first-innings lead will go through to the final.
Gold League
Port Qasim have taken control of their match against UBL in the Gold league as they finished day one 110 runs ahead in the first innings.
UBL were bundled out for 84 as Sohail Khan took 6-26 and Abdur Rauf 4-49. In reply, Port Qasim were 194-6 at stumps, with Umar Amin making 57.
Meanwhile, league leaders SNGPL finished day one on 276-2 against NBP as Naeemuddin was unbeaten on 126.

Rawalpindi Rams ended day one at 252-6, as an unbeaten 158-run seventh wicket partnership bailed them out after they were 94-6. Zahid Mansoor’s 118 was ably backed by Yasim Murtaza, who is on 83.
Wapda would be disappointed with their batting display at the Multan Cricket Ground as they were dismissed for 193, with ZTBL’s openers negotiating a tricky few overs at the end of the day to finish on 24-0.
Bottom club Multan Tigers continue to struggle as they were dismissed by the Lahore Lions for 162, with Bilawal Bhatti claiming 5-58. Lions were 79-3 in reply at stumps.
