The two men associated with the MQM were gunned down in an act of targeted killing late Friday night at Chishti Nagar, Orangi Town, within the limits of the Iqbal Market police. Witnesses said that at least two unidentified men riding a motorcycle targeted them and fled. They were shot multiple times and were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. They died during treatment.
The deceased were identified as Shahid Hussain alias Miru, 35, son of Muhammad Hussain, and Shahbaz, son of Muhammad Nawaz. Shahid was a worker of the MQM and was associated with the unit 118-B while Shahbaz was an MQM supporter.
Their funeral services were held at Orangi Town. The mourners shouted slogans against the frequent attacks and killings of party workers, particularly in Orangi Town. A case has yet to be registered as police officials said that they were waiting for the complainants to file a complaint.
MQM condemns
Condemning the killing of a worker and supporter late Friday night, the MQM said that terrorists in Orangi had intensified their violent activities against the party as five activists had been killed in the area during the past one week alone.
Rabita committee leader Aminul Haque said that with the presence of Taliban and people from militant and banned outfits in Orangi and around Qasba and Aligarh Colony, the extremists were freely attacking MQM workers.
"If the government cannot protect the lives of MQM workers, then it should let us know, and we'll take steps for our own protection," he said.
