CAA working to expand the parking and international departure briefing area

ISLAMABAD:
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said the ongoing renovation, expansion and development work at Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIA) will be completed by January next year.

CAA spokesperson Mubarak Shah on Saturday said the authority was working to expand the parking and international departure briefing area.

He said installation of the latest security equipment and establishment of more check-in counters was also part the plan.

BBIA faces the inherited problem of space congestion with the passenger burden constantly increasing, he added.

The spokesperson stated the expansion work at the airport will also create spacious area for maneuvering of passengers, adding that a separate and exclusive car park for the staff has considerably reduced the congestion in the existing parking space.

The staff parking is being constructed at the Nur Khan Base road and has a capacity to accommodate 300 cars and as many motorcycles.

Shah said the facility of taxi-way at the airport would help in reducing fuel consumption of the airlines and save time of passengers.

Flight staggering technique is applied to accommodate more aircraft and segregate the passengers’ influx for their convenience, he added.

He said a passengers’ complaint centre is also being established at the airport. The airport was recently reported in the international news as one of the worst airports in the world.
