Awarding excellence: Rawalpindi students receive laptops
Addressing a ceremony organised by the Rawalpindi Education Department and Rawalpindi Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Punjab Minister for Labour and Manpower Raja Ashfaq Sarwar said education was among the top priorities of the provincial government.
He informed that a Rs80 billion endowment fund has been established in the province to provide scholarships to students. He said the Punjab government’s Danish Schools are providing quality education to students from less-privileged sections of society.
The provincial minister said that over 45,000 children of industrial workers are getting free education and Punjab Workers Welfare Board was providing them with uniforms, books and transportation.
He said the provincial government is encouraging talented students through scholarships and awards.
MNA Tahira Auranzaib and MPA Raja Muhammad Hanif also spoke on the occasion and talked about special initiatives of the government in various sectors. A total of 4,450 school and college students received laptops on Saturday.
Earlier, a contingent of Punjab Police presented a guard of honour to the students.

Can I get one laptop too. I need to check FB on a routine basis. What else will one do with a laptop. It would be better if the CM put these funds for better education at schools and colleges.
Give them laptops so that they can spend more and more time on facebook or play games with little benefit to education while people are dying in hospitals due to corruption and lack of funds, rampant beggary on the streets. It is much better to educate a kid who otherwise would be illiterate for the price of one laptop. Stop cheap tactics to gain votes. Smart students cannot be fooled.
