Literature for learning: Festival set to commence in a first
The Teachers’ Literature Festival is set to begin on Thursday at the Children’s Library Complex.
LAHORE:
The Teachers’ Literature Festival is set to begin today (Thursday) at the Children’s Library Complex.
The one-day event will be free for teachers and is being organised by the Idara-i-Taleem-o-Aagahi and the Oxford University Press in collaboration with the Open Society Foundations, the Children’s Library Complex and the School Education Department. The event is being held for the first time in the city.
A two-day Children’s Literature Festival will commence on Friday under the same banner. The organisers said the initiative had been taken to promote reading, creative writing and critical thinking among children and adults. Festival founder Baela Raza Jamil said the objective of the events was not restricted to revamping the education system. She said they had also been organised to demonstrate what captures the attention of children. Jamil stressed the importance of incorporating activities along the lines of the festival in the education system. Idara-i -Taleem-o-Aagahi programme manager Imtiaz Nizami said over 2,000 teachers were expected to attend the teacher’s literature festival. He said teachers from public as well as private institutions had been invited. He said the festivals aimed to improve learning across Pakistan by facilitating dialogue between experts, discussions, teachers and parents.
Nizami said both events would be open to public. He said schools across the Punjab could take part in the events. He said the programmes had been designed to facilitate learning and provide creative minds with a platform.
As many as 15 spaces have been reserved at the venue for various events scheduled to be held during the festivals. These include book launches, readings, panel discussions and workshops. The Teachers’ Literature Festival will begin at 9am and end at 5:30pm. Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Minister Rana Mashhood will inaugurate the Children’s Literature Festival on Friday.
