Aggrieved aggressor?: Challan against PAT workers submitted in ATC

LAHORE:

The Prosecution Department submitted a challan in an Anti-Terrorism Court on Wednesday against seven nominated and 43 unidentified members of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) accused of attacking policemen in the Model Town violence.

Among those nominated is PAT general secretary Khurram Nawaz Gandapur. An ATC also declared the nominated PAT members proclaimed offenders and issued perpetual arrest warrants for them.

Faisal Town police had registered a case against Gandapur among others for attacking policemen during a police operation in Model Town on June 17.

Speaking to journalists at the Minhajul Quran secretariat, Gandapur said this amounted to state terrorism. “We don’t recognise the case.” He said it was travesty that those who had been killed and wounded without cause were being treated like criminals while those who had fired the bullets had become the aggrieved party. “Everyone saw on TV the atrocities committed by the police... we were unarmed.”
